Brong Ahafo Police arrest 3; retrieve weapons, ammunitions
The Kintampo Police have arrested three persons including a female with firearms and packets of ammunitions at Potor in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The woman, Kande Bawa, aged 40 together with Samed Rauf, 18, and Somaila Gyaboni 50 were picked up on Friday upon a tip off.
'We retrieved two AK47 guns, two local short guns and packets of ammunitions were retrieved during the arrest, the Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Desmond Owusu Boampong told Joy News' Anass Sabit.
Potor is a trouble spot for chieftaincy-related violence after one person was killed in a gun battle between two fueding factions in May this year. Calm returned to the area after the police intervened but thousands of residents fled the community following the clashes.
The police believe that the residents who fled are returning from the Northern Region with the guns and ammunitions to renew the clashes.
Chief Superintendent Owusu Boampong urged the two factions of the dispute to keep calm and allow the police investigate the matter.
He said the three suspects are being processed to be arraigned on Monday.
'I urge all the residents to desist from transporting the weapons into the town because if we get anyone, we will arrest them,' Chief Superintendent Owusu Boampong warned. - culled from-myjoyonline.com
