Dino, Tinubu faceoff: Lagos lawmakers protest in Abuja
MEMBERS of the Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, protested at the National headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what they termed irresponsible and reprehensible statement Senator Dino Melaye made against Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Addressing newsmen, the Assembly members blamed the escalation of the crisis on the lukewarm attitude of the Senate leadership, arguing that they would have done more to curtail it.
Deputy Speaker, Wasiu Sani, who led the four-man lawmakers, including actor, Desmond Elliot, to the party headquarters argued that such action would discourage other men from allowing their wives be in the senate.
“We are in APC to show our displeasure over the ugly incidence at the National Assembly between two Senators of APC. We are not unaware that there could be issues of divergent opinion, but when derogatory remarks, foul words, are used, when reprehensible, irrational, unguided and irresponsible statements from a senator to a fellow senator are used, it becomes a serious issue,” he said.
Blaming the principal officers of the senate, the state Assembly members said: “We felt that whatever happened should have been settled in parliamentary manner, but this was settled unpaliamentarily.
“We also felt that the leadership of the senate did not act on time, which is of essence. They allowed the issues to fester. It should have been nipped in the bud right there and then,” he noted.- THE SUN
