2 Delta LP lawmakers defect to PDP
The only two members of the Labour Party (LP) in the Delta State House
of Assembly, Hon Evans Ochuko Ivwurie, representing Ethiope East
Constituency and Hon Peter Okabare Uviejitobor, representing Udu
Constituency, have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Their defection means that the Assembly will soon become a one-party legislature.
The notice of the defection of the duo was read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Hon Monday Igbuya, on Tuesday.
With Ivwurie’s defection to PDP, it means he has also dumped his
former political godfather, Chief Great Ogboru, who had earlier joined
the APC unceremoniously. Both of them are from the same town, Abraka in
Ethiope East Local Government Area.
The former Minority Leader of the Assembly and member representing Ika
South Constituency, Hon Festus Okoh, had last week also defected to the
PDP from the Accord Party of Nigeria.
The only opposition lawmaker remaining in the House, Hon Efe Ofobruku,
representing Uvwie Constituency under the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) is believed to be a PDP member by proxy. - The Authority
