NDLEA nabs 2 at Lagos airport for drug trafficking

Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos have arrested two suspected drug traffickers, after they discovered cocaine hidden inside their boxer shorts and luggage. The agency disclosed this on Friday via a statement by its spokesman, Ofoyeju Mitchell. According to the agency, the suspects are Okonkwo Godwin, 57, an importer of jewellery found with cocaine in his boxer shorts and Nnaemeka David Chinedu, 37, an auto parts dealer who ingested 94 wraps of heroin. The seizure was one of the largest quantities of drugs ingested by a suspect at the Lagos airport lately, said the NDLEA. The statement quoted the NDLEA commander at the Lagos airport, Ahmadu Garba as saying the suspects arrived from Brazil and Uganda with cocaine and heroin respectively. The entire seizures, according to Garba, weighed 750 grammes. While Godwin was arrested during the inward screening of passengers on a South African Airline flight from Brazil, Chinedu was caught for ingesting 94 wraps of heroin weighing 1.595kg during the screening of passengers on Rwanda Airline from Uganda. The 57-year-old suspect, Okonkwo Godwin who hid a parcel of cocaine in his boxer shorts told narcotic investigators that he smuggled drugs because of his numerous financial problems. On his part, Chinedu said he ingested 94 wraps of heroin for 450,000 Naira out of desperation. Reacting on the arrest, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (rtd.) stressed that the agency would continue to thwart plans of drug traffickers who wish to make money from drug trafficking. – The Sun.
