No journalist will be detained under my watch - CP
The newly posted Commissioner of Police (CP) to Imo State, Mr Chris
Okey Ezike, has assured that no media practitioner in the state will
either be arrested or detained for executing his social responsibility
roles to the society.
Ezike, who said that he appreciates the enormous challenges of
journalism practice in the country and the need for journalists to work
in synergy with the security agencies, disclosed this in Owerri while
familiarising himself with media practitioners in the state.
He recalled that Mr Ibrahim Idris, the nation’s Inspector General of
Police has the fundamental imperatives of his administration to
include robust fight against violent crime, focus on intelligence led
policing, quick and timely response to distress calls and community
engagement.
The Commissioner of Police pointed out that in the course of his
service as Police Officer to the nation that he has functioned
efficiently and effectively in various capacities in different
Commands and formations and promised to explore his past experiences
to bring about good policing services to the good people of the state.
Ezike also said that his security mission and vision in the state is
to reduce crimes and enhance safety and security of the state so as to
ensure that the citizens of the state go about their normal businesses
without fear of any molestation.
He expressed his desire to provide qualitative police service to the
people of the state, fight armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other
violently social disorders with renewed vigor, strength and
