Lagos White Cap Chiefs, traditional heads including community head
today endorsed Prince Aremo Adesegun Oniru as the new traditional ruler
of Oniru Kingdom in Lagos.
Speaking at the event held at the palace of Oba Oniru of Iru land at
Victoria Island in Lagos, Chief Abisogun Saliu from the Abisogun ruling
house said it has become imperative to come out with the position of
the upright sons and daughters of Iru land on the succession process to
the much respected stool of Oniru of Iruland.
According to him, “ the stool of Oniru as first class monarch came
into statutory recognitions in 1994 after a history of more than 200
years as a Chieftaincy family. First Oniru of Iru land, our recently
transited Oba Abiodun Idowu Oniru, ascended the throne and spend a
period of 25-year on the throne and as at date there has only been one
Oba of Iruland in the history of the Kingdom where posterity was
wonderfully nice to our deceased Oba as His Majesty’s reign brought
unprecedented development, government recognition coupled with lots of
personal prosperity to both indigenes and foreigners in Iru land.”
Abisogun said that the ancient city has witnessed peace and harmony
which has made it the envy of it’s neighbors and the darling of
investor.
He said, “Now that it is time to nominate a replacement to the
vacancy stool of Oniru, it is it important to have in mind the need for
continued progress and unhindered development in entrusting the
leadership of our city to any prince.”
“It is in connection with this, the Chiefs and Baales of Iru land have
resolved to back the nomination of Aremo Adesegun Oniru as the next
Oniru of Iruland.”
“We cannot afford at this stage of our development to allow some
elements who did not contribute to the development of the land to take
over the development of the city and reduce it to the vassal of some
foreign interest”
He said, ”we can not afford stifting of our development in the hands of
individual who have no knowledge of how we got here. He added that, it
was Aremo Adesegun Oniru that assisted the community in ensuring
unprecedented infrastructure development in the land. “He brought the
whole family of Oniru together as a united force in the absence of which
it would have been nearly impossible to make the landmark progress we
have witnessed in recent times’
You will recalled that a section of the Abisogun ruling house of the
Oniru family has rejected the announcement of Hakeem Ajasa, a chief
superintendent of Police, CSP as the Oba-elect to the stool of the Oniru
of Iru land.
Ajasa’s choice was reportedly announced by Chief Biliaminu Sanni in
Lagos on Wednesday. The last Oba Abiodun Oniru, the Oniru of Iru land
died at the age of 82 on Monday, September 23rd, 2019.
The aggrieved Abisogun ruling house reacting to the development in a
statement stated that, “The public and all interested parties are put on
notice of the kangaroo selection of a person unknown to the entire
Oniru Family to rule over their land and fill the currently vacant Oniru
Chieftaincy stool.
